A Coach with a Sense of Humor and a Lot of Sense October 1, 2006 I have a prejudice about (and for) people who have a good sense of humor. I think that a good sense of humor is only possible in people who are extremely intelligent. Pierson has a new professional soccer coach who is a fantastic coach and mentor, and happens to have a remarkable sense of humor. In the course of most games I end up chuckling and sometimes outright laughing (along with the other parents) as a result of his occasional comments to the boys. He coaches and directs them with purpose and encouragement. Yet at the same time, he makes his comments amusing. I have never seen a coach like him. And I watch a lot of soccer. He has taught Pierson more in the short time he has trained him than I thought possible. And he has taken a group of boys who did not know each other 3 weeks ago and made them a team. There is something very special about that. And if that is not enough, the boys leave the field smiling after every game no matter the score. Pierson is happy and learning and we are happy and learning. It doesn’t get much better than that.
