Ladies and Gentlemen it was one of those evenings in the Summer when you wished it would rain but not thunderstorm, because that would cancel the game. 7:30pm Team Greenie's Captain Jack age almost 8 years of age took his draft picks. One mom standing in for the dad who couldn't make it, a bunch of kids under 12, and myself. Team Captain Mike age,...let's just say he probably had a Satin suit to do the "Hustle" in, back in the day, practiced a more Machiavellian tactic of acquiring all of the veteran adult soccer players first, then the kids. At kick off the game seemed a bit off balanced, but I love a challenge so being on the team that gets scored on in the first 30 seconds or so, twice, only makes me try harder. It wasn't until the lawyers and recruiters for team Greenie struck a sweet deal, swapping Patrick, whose scoring and attacking offensive opponents near the goal helped give the deadly Gladiators in their last season a trophy, for Jacks dad Tom. The Greenies lost an attacker but got some bigger stock and chipped away at the Non-Greenies until Team Captain Mike bloody, or maybe it was sweat, consented. In post game interviews Mike had this to say "Well even though the DSSA officially doesn't keep score,...(pant) I know the feeling when we've been,....(deep breath) bested and that's just what I feel,...(sniffle)." Actually, it didn't matter at all the score, or besting the other team. We were outside detached from the Game Cubes and Cell phones, and teaching a group of kids really important things. Jack learned to always keep the eye on the ball not his nose. Patrick learned a volley to the center by passing (something his father seemed really happy about). Pierson scored a bunch of goals (something I've never seen him do and those proud parent juices did also course through me). Tuesday night was fun. Soulmates Jewelry Home page More Journal |
