This week a ring was born of great stature. Geometric, and symmetrical with parallel planes chipped out of wax using a lateral mill and a vise that I've never used for this purpose. This week the ring carved in this new way became platinum, stones lay perfectly in their place  that brought  life to every corner of the ring. This ring's being had become so great that it found its way to the finger of a woman of class, and demeanor who promised herself to a man who had life spouting from his eyes in a quick and witty way. I love this couple because they persevered through trials of work, pestering of friends and relatives, and even themselves to arrive at a decision that they belong together.

This week I made Shore-break in 14k yellow gold and used a marquise cut diamond for the first time in this design. I believe the design qualifies itself worthy of the couple celebrating their 40th anniversary together. She was nervous at the prospect of commissioning me to make it without seeing it before, but I feel her look when she gazed on it the first time said it all. The worry lines faded and a smile like a new bride walking down the aisle smeared across her face. The job is almost complete with just the final fitting and polishing to do.

This week I made "Jo's Heart."  A heart cut diamond set in platinum using the customers stone and my mounting design. She called me the day after putting the ring on her finger to thank me, then her husband called the day after that to thank me. I believe that this job was like removing a splinter from her hand and replacing it with a magic wand to hold. Cool ring, cool ending to the story.

To Mrs. C.b.l.,... I can not thank you enough for pitching the classless fits that you did. Your silver ring that we did not want to size, while it was a pain to size, was not as much of a pain as you were. The time we spent with you has created a new policy in our store that has been long and coming. We no longer repair silver jewelry because silver jewelry when used up and broken should be discarded, not resurrected. It is a cheap accessory that has its place in the world of going out to a bar, getting smashed, peeing on your lawn and passing out before you make it to bed. When that twenty dollar pair of jeans finally gives up the ghost you toss them. Same with the twenty dollar earrings. Buy new ones, or maybe step up to a higher class of living that just might require that you don't abuse yourself that much. As a reward to your new good behavior buy gold or platinum, and stop bothering us with garbage, sentimental or not it is still cheap silver and it is not worth repairing.

Cleaned my water garden, cleaned my house, went on a bike ride around the lake. Played video games with Pierson, finishing up Desert Storm on the easy level. Went climbing twice this week (tried for three times, this next week maybe.) Was a mosquito for a 2nd grade Halloween party, and escorted a Benihana chef around the neighborhood to get candy. Finally, spent some good time with Courtney. Good week.
