Courtney, who is now my wife, worked with me at Engle and Morgan. She sold jewelry and worked on the aspects that I didn't like about business. She was, and still is, excellent with people and always helpful when it comes to finding that perfect piece for the customer. Weekends in the mall brought good customers as well as some inbreeds. The inbreeds really like to buy jewelry when it is 95% off and look for name-brand recognition pieces. "Oh yes, I'd love to buy that silver David Yurman (machine made by the tens of thousands) but I'll have to settle with the silver plate imposters variety instead, so that I can make all my friends think I have money when I don't" This foolery, drives me crazy. Jewelry is about emotion, art, love and sacrifice. Courtney was working the floor one weekend when a such an inbreed came into the store to waste time. One piece in particular that the mullet encrusted folk noticed, was a ring. the ring was a platinum, and 18k yellow gold tension set red spinel. The stone could be seen from almost any angle and to this day remains one of my more favorite pieces, but just because I like it though doesn't mean that anyone else will. The ring had been in the case for over a year enduring many comments, but the mullet head struck the final blow with "That looks like a spaceship came down and made it!" At that I bought it from the store and gave it that night to Courtney. It was the first piece of jewelry I gave to her. The funny thing is how it proves the slogan "We want what we can't have" because the next day when Courtney wore the ring the number of compliments were innumerable, and she still gets them. Could be the model wearing it. Some of these stories are extremely personal Do you hug like we do home page |
